Inspired scoops two awards in two days

Inspired Homes won BRONZE for Best Interior Design at the WhatHouse? Awards 2018 and Developer of the Year at the National LIS Awards.

Inspired Homes’ Innova micro-apartment in Croydon has won BRONZE for Best Interior Design at the WhatHouse? Awards 2018. The result was announced on Friday at the Gala Presentation Luncheon at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane.

Commonly known as the ‘Oscars’ of the UK housebuilding industry, the WhatHouse? Awards is the UK’s largest event celebrating the very best new homes, attracting the biggest names in housebuilding. Now in its 37th year, this year’s event was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and sports presenter Gabby Logan.

Judged by an independent panel of property experts, the Best Interior Design category recognises both interior design and interior architecture – the quality of the internal layouts, as well as furnishing and specifying trends and interpretations; how has the space been utilised; and how the potential of the finished product been showcased to the consumer.

Inspired’s 30 square metre micro show apartment was styled by Croydon-based interior designer and vlogger Sarah Akwisombe.

The judges commented: “The budget for the interior design of this 30 square metre one-bedroom micro-apartment in Croydon was incredible: just £8,000, which had to include a selection of clothes and VAT, meaning interior designer Sarah Akwisombe had to be as clever and economic as the apartments themselves.

“Although the home is priced at only £295,000, the fixtures and fittings are of a high specification, which gave Akwisombe a solid basis from which to create a cool apartment with her micro budget. The clever use of space also impressed the judges – the Duffy London coffee table extends to a good-sized dining table, while Pol Potten stools dotted around the apartment provide the seating. A jade green velvet sofa is a perfect on-trend splash of colour. The bedroom features a neon light as an alternative to wall art and brings a contemporary edge, perfect for ‘edgy’ Croydon. Akwisombe also supplied a list, with prices, of every high street item used to furnish the apartment, a welcome extra from the interior designer.”

On Thursday night at the same venue, Inspired picked up Developer of the Year at the National LIS Awards making it two awards in the space of two days. Organised by National Landlord Investment Show, the awards celebrate the success of Private Landlords, developers operating in the buy to let space and buy to let service providers.

Commenting, Martin Skinner, Chief Executive of Inspired Homes and Inspired Asset Management, said: “I’m naturally delighted by our award winning end to the year – two awards in two days! It’s a testament to the team’s incredibly hard work, flair and forward-thinking approach. We have some exciting new projects coming up and I truly believe we are only going to get better.”
