We’re delighted to announce that our Chief Executive, Martin Skinner, won the ‘Tenacious Property and Construction Award’ at the 21st Century Icon Awards.
The award was received at last Friday’s gala dinner at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge and commends individuals who make a significant mark in property development, that are passionate about the sector, create new business models and display remarkable tenacity.
Martin’s micro-living strategy offers high-quality affordable market homes for young professionals while intensifying assets to deliver higher returns for investors. Martin launched his first property company, NICE Group, in 2003, creating a £250m portfolio of affordable privately rented micro house shares. 10 years on, under the Inspired brand, he spotted the opportunity to convert offices into micro-apartments for sale to first-time buyers using permitted development rights. He has been tenacious in his approach, helping to change perceptions towards micro-living despite scepticism from policy-makers, appearing on an ITV News London feature on micro homes as well as on the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme to fight the cause. He also helped the British Property Federation to come up with new, industry-recognised micro-living definitions, paving the way for an improved debate on these alternative residential asset classes.
Commenting, Martin Skinner, said: “I’m delighted to receive this award, which means I can now officially declare myself a 21st Century Icon. I thoroughly enjoyed the awards dinner and meeting lots of great people, so a huge thanks to Tarun Ghulati and Preeti Rana, Founders of the Awards, for making it a truly memorable night.”
