With the summer drawing to a close, all is not lost as there’s lots to look forward to this autumn. We’ve compiled a list of the top five things to do.
The Netherlands National Circus at Ashburton Park – (Tuesday, September 11-26, 7pm-9pm). Modern meets traditional in this international celebration of talent all the way from the Netherlands. Expect to see acts of all kinds from acrobatics to comedy, illusionists to juggling – filling the high-top with suspense, laughter and joy. The vast diversity of acts means that there’s something for everyone. It’s a real characterful experience, overflowing with uniqueness and talent – a spectacle not to be missed.
Autumn Foraging Courses in Warlingham – (Friday, September 14, 12pm-3pm). Step into the wild as you embark on a foraging adventure through the woods near Croydon. On this course, you will learn how to identify the huge variety of wild mushrooms, fruits and plants, as well as which ones can be eaten or not – an important lesson to learn! In the middle of the walk, you will have to opportunity to stop and enjoy delicious soup accompanied by elderflower champagne. Then, afterwards, you will be able to sample your findings from the day as well as feast on a tasty mushroom dish, freshly cooked in front of you – yum!
Driftin’ Dreamers Open Air Cinema Screening of The Greatest Showman at Ashburton Park – (Friday, September 21, 6:30pm-10pm). Witness the inspirational musical, ‘The Greatest Showman’, in the beautiful setting of Ashburton Park. Bring along a chair or blanket to sit on – or whatever you find comfortable – then head over to the on-site marquee to pick up food and drink along with a set of wireless headphones to fully immerse yourself into the cinematic experience. Wrap up warm and maybe bring along a torch for your walk home.
Well Versed at Boxpark – (Wednesday, September 26, 7pm-9pm). Well Versed is a spoken word trio from Thornton Heath, who hold a monthly open mic poetry night at Boxpark Croydon. Join resident poet Natalie, alongside the ever so charming Becky Becks, super young and talented group 11-11-10 and, of course, the super open mic heroes with DJ Houdini setting the tone with soulful vibes from 7pm. Poets take the mic from 7.30pm.
Funfair and Fireworks at Wandle Park – (Friday, November 2, 4pm-9:30pm). Start November with a bang. Wandle Park will come alive with funfair rides from 4pm, providing fun and entertainment in all shapes and sizes. Great for youngsters as well as those who are older, wanting to bring out their playful side. Then, when the sun goes down, the night’s sky will be filled with colourful explosions alongside those familiar ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ at ground level.
Croydon breathes life all year round with a huge variety of different activities and experiences to get stuck into – day and night, indoors and outdoors. So, get out there and enjoy it!
