We were delighted to attend the Develop Croydon Partner Meeting today at The View on the 9th floor of Centre Tower. With Develop Croydon’s Chair Richard Plant taking us through the business plan for 2017, we were updated on various projects throughout the borough by partners including: Councillor Alison Butler, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Homes, Regeneration & Planning; Boxpark’s Roger Wade; Hub’s Development Manager Alex Hall, who talked about their Taberner House scheme; Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison of RISE gallery; and our own Chief Executive Martin Skinner of Inspired Homes.
We were excited to hear about Croydon’s progress over the last few years. From the low point of the London Riots in 2011, Croydon now has the fastest growing economy in London led by the tech sector, a bustling street art scene set around St George’s Walk, and Europe’s largest shopping centre on its way with the new Westfield. There is so much for Croydoners to be proud of. Of course, Croydon is still a little way off being the new Shoreditch but the signs are there that people will one day be calling other areas the ‘new Croydon’.
Develop Croydon will be getting together next at MIPIM from 14-17 March in Cannes, using the world’s premier real estate event to collectively market Croydon to an international audience. Our Chief Executive Martin will also be using MIPIM to raise money for youth homelessness by hosting the LandAid MIPIM Tennis Classic, a round-robin doubles tennis tournament, at Cannes Tennis Club on the 15th. If you would like to help us reach our £20,000 target, you can sponsor Martin HERE.
