My drift to MIPIM with the property petrol heads

On Saturday 10th March, the Inspired MIPIM Rally for BuildAid set off from Sloane Square and began a three-day adventure to MIPIM 2018.

Our impressive entourage included: Inspired Asset Management CEO Martin Skinner taking the lead in his gold McLaren 675LT Spider, with renowned car photographer Lex Thompson capturing the key moments; David Barker, CEO and Founder of Freedom Capital, in his Porsche 911 997; a red Porsche 911 991 GT3 driven by Dean Pluthero, Director of RainMakr Luxury Assets, and Sergey Trashchenko, Director of Troika Property; Chris Madelin, CEO of Magna Group, in an Audi R8 V10 tuned to 650HP at the wheels; Guy Harrington, CEO and Founder of Glenhawk, in his Audi RS6; and Ivo Gospodinov, director of WinnwInnKeeper and his wife, Konnie battling the elements on a Piaggio MP3 500ie Sport ABS.

On the way to Cannes we stopped over in Le Mans, Lyon and Monaco, enjoying some beautiful French food and culture, including a drop or two of local vin rouge. We drove some stunning and varied roads across the three days, really getting to see what our cars could do. The first day brought us long, empty straights and the last day was filled with with mountainous hairpins, sheer drops and winding, and flowing roads as we headed to Monaco via Route Napoleon.

The group arrived at MIPIM raving about the “epic rally” and the “epic roads” – inspired by the work of BuildAid. Pluthero said that “there couldn’t have been a more fantastic group of people involved” and how memorable driving Route Napoleon was. Harrington of Glenhawk said it was “a great trip with like-minded car nutters and all for a good cause – win win!”

The rally was in aid of BuildAid, a small family-run construction charity, an organisation very close to Skinner’s heart. We managed to raise £12,000 and that figure is steadily increasing. Huge thanks to ARJ, Hyperoptic and GreenOak for their generous sponsorship and everyone that took part. The money will go towards constructing children’s shelters and improved educational buildings for young children in the Philippines, including purpose-built protective homes for young girls rescued from online sexual exploitation. In April of this year, we are branching out into Kenya, building vital resources for marginalised and isolated communities.

Skinner was buzzing with how successful the rally was and regaled all his peers at MIPIM with stories from the trip. We’re already thinking about the next one, so get in touch if you’d like to be involved!
