1 million new homes by 2020 could be possible thanks to Cameron

Since Britain voted to leave the European Union, experts have pondered and analysed the UK’s current housing crisis with a hope of predicting the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, researchers have now suggested that the government’s target of 1 million new homes by 2020 could be a realistic target, thanks to Cameron leaving behind a much healthier housing market compared with his predecessors.

Over 750,000 homes have been built during Cameron’s time, making his housing legacy the strongest of any government for a whole generation.

This is excellent news considering that house prices are currently being fuelled by a huge lack of quality supply and an increasing population across the UK.

At Inspired, we focus on helping hardworking Londoners to secure a place on the housing market by building attainable, yet stylish studios and apartments. We are therefore incredibly happy to hear that our current government are so supportive towards developers and the housing market, placing home ownership as a key element of adulthood.

In addition, the HFI have pointed out that as Chancellor, Osborne put housing at the heart of Britain’s recovery and growth strategy, committing more than £38bn of public money into the sector; “a scale of public finance housing support that has not seen since the post-war era”, Elphicke added.

“Financial commitment has been matched by root and branch reform across all parts of government which impact on housing: planning, public finances, local government finance, local government powers and the government’s entire public land estate.”

The HFI has also identified the flagship Help to Buy scheme as a key driver to their success, which did not just boost demand, but also gave housebuilders confidence to increase the supply of new housing in the knowledge that  purchasers had the means of buying property post-credit crunch. Inspired have ensured that as many of our developments currently offer help to buy, ensuring that as many first time buyers as possible have a fair chance of purchasing a London property.

We currently have developments in areas such as Croydon, Sutton, Epsom, Chertsey, and Crawley, with prices starting from £199,950.
